Candlelight Reception and Holiday Homes Tour – December 7 through 9, 2007
This weekend extravaganza will showcase the best Danville has to offer. More
- Friday, December 7, 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. – Candlelight Reception at The Lawson Overbey Inn, 782 Main Street. Hors d'oeuvres, wine, and carriage rides included.
- Saturday, December 8, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. – Tour of Homes with trolley transportation.
- Saturday, December 8, 2:00 p.m. – Concert at Sacred Spaces, 200 Jefferson Avenue.
- Sunday, December 9, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. – Tour of Homes with trolley transportation.
- Sunday, December 9, 2:00 p.m. – Concert by The Heartstrings at 117 Broad Street.
Holiday Buffet and Candlelight Stroll – Saturday, December 9, 2006. The Danville Historical Society invites you to enjoy three Victorian homes to benefit the Coy Garbett Preservation Fund. Begin at the J. R. Jopling House at 5:30 p.m. for appetizers and wine. Progress to the Lawson-Overbey House for heavy hors d'oeuvres and wine. And then adjourn to the M. P. Jordon House for dessert and champagne.

Lecture and slide show by Michael Weishan – Friday,
November 10, 2006. Michael Weishan Is the host of PBS's The
Victory Garden, gardening editor of New Old House Magazine, and author
of numerous books and articles. Michael's
visit to Danville is being co-sponsored by the Garden Club of Danville, the
Gabriella Garden Club, and the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research.
Michael is an expert in recreating gardens of
times gone by. His book The New Traditional Garden: A Practical Guide to
Restoring Authentic American Gardens for Homes of All Ages emphasizes the order and

Bus Trip: Annual Historic Salisbury Tour – Saturday,
October 14, 2006. This year's tour features twelve
homes exemplifying the charm and elegance of carefully restored and preserved
architecture. Please see the Historic

One of the jewels of the tour is the
McCubbins-McCanless House –
a grand Victorian being restored as a joint effort by Historic Salisbury Foundation, The
History Channel, and Lowe’s and which will be featured on the nationally
televised series "Save Our History."
33rd Annual Walking Tour – Sunday, December 11, 2005 – 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Experience the opulence of bygone era in Danville, Virginia. Exuberant Victorian mansions,
Edwardian, Georgian Revival and Foursquare dwellings plus an English Cottage await your
inspection. See adaptive reuse of grand industrial buildings in the Tobacco District showcase
the city's Golden Age. Hear the city's oldest pipe organ in a magnificent church-turned-concert
hall. Don't miss the Society's (and the city's) premier annual event.

Freedom Is Not Free – Monday, November 28, 2005 – 7:30 p.m.
Speaker Davis E. Newman, will offers insight into the challenges of the building of the
Veteran's Memorial Wall at Dan Daniel Park (shown under construction at left). This
monument will honor the veterans of Danville and Pittsylvania County, The
program is jointly sponsored by the Danville Historical Society and the Danville Museum
Guild. Program Information
Greenhill Cemetery Tour – Sunday, October 23, 2005 – 3:00 p.m.
Learn about Victorian burial customs, headstones, and the
Confederate Soldiers Monument. Tour departs from the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and
History (Sutherlin Mansion). Tour led by the Museum's Education Coordinator,

Southside Premier – "Down in the Old Belt" –
Friday, September 16, 2005. The Danville Historical Society and the Danville Community College were
pleased to co-host a screening of "Down in the Old Belt - Voices From the Tobacco South."
